Meet Gemini, a student currently undertaking our dental nurse training course. Gemini is a hardworking and enthusiastic student who is determined to make a career in the dental industry. Here is a glimpse into Gemini's student profile:
Background
Gemini completed her A-levels in biology, chemistry, and psychology and always had a passion for healthcare. However, Gemini was unsure of which healthcare profession to pursue. After some research and speaking with her family dentist, Gemini was drawn to the role of dental nursing. She found the idea of assisting with treatments and procedures while providing support to patients particularly appealing.
“There is always something fascinating about being ‘behind the curtain’ so to speak and Dentistry has not disappointed.
I entered the mysterious world of Dentistry about a year ago, with my only authentic experience being a reasonably extensive round of Orthodontics in my late teens. I applied for the job as Trainee Dental nurse on a whim and it turned out to be exactly what I did not know I wanted.
Up until this point, I had moved abroad for 3 years and even upon my return, I had not found what I was looking for and still felt completely clueless as to what I wanted to do. After having learnt German during my hiatus abroad, I knew I wanted to put my newfound confidence to the test and pursue something challenging. I wanted a career that I felt was important and really mattered.
My first big step behind the curtain was interesting to say the least. There is more dental equipment then I had ever realised, endless draws and cupboards of specialist tools and materials- all with a specific purpose.
One thing I have particularly enjoyed about dental nursing is how hands-on it is. Firstly, you learn by observing, secondly by apprehending and thirdly by doing. It was really on that first day I spent in the surgery that it became obvious almost immediately how important my job was. I discovered I enjoy working with people, connecting, and supporting them becomes second nature.
Dental Nursing is a busy job with a great deal to learn. Fortunately, I have been lucky enough to study for my Dental nursing qualification online with Infills Academy. I personally like that it is a very personalised experience that I may not have had in a classroom elsewhere. Students have one to ones with a tutor who is readily available to offer advice and support and the course itself is clear, concise, and comprehensive.
Being able to work to study the course at my own pace and setting myself goals that fit around my working schedule and my personal life have proved to be invaluable. I feel like the course has really helped to enhance my knowledge and has given me confidence in my abilities as a Dental Nurse.”
